Opis: HOOK™ Biotin-PEG₂-Amine, and its long chain form, HOOK™ Biotin-PEG₃-Amine, are carboxyl reactive biotinylation reagents. These agents contain terminal amines and react with carboxyl groups found at the carboxyl termini, aspartate, and glutamate side chains. The reaction is mediated by a water-soluble carbodiimide (EDC). The carbodiimide activates the carboxyl group and reacts with the amines (-NH₂) on the biotinylation agent to form an amide bond. This reaction is rapid and takes just a few minutes to complete. Under these conditions, hydrazide-derivatives of biotin reagents may also react with the carboxyls.

Opis: The Fluoro™ Protease Assay Kit is designed for the quantitative determination of proteases present in a protein sample. The assay uses fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-labelled casein as a general protease substrate. The fluorescein label on the FITC-casein is highly quenched. When the proteases present in the sample of interest digest the FITC-casein substrate into smaller peptides, the quenching of the fluorescence label is relieved and the fluorescence of the substrate is increased. The fluorescence of the FITC-labeled peptide is measured with excitation at 485 nm and emission at 530 nm to determine protease activity. The kit detects picogram level of proteases present in the sample.

Opis: X-gal (5-bromo-4-chloro-3-indolyl-β-D- galactopyranoside) is used to indicate whether bacteria express the ß-galactosidase enzyme, which is encoded by the lacZ gene. X-gal is cleaved by ß-galactosidase yielding galactose and 5-bromo-4-chloro-3-hydroxyindole, which is oxidised into 5,5'-dibromo-4,4'-dichloro-indigo, an insoluble blue product. Thus, if X-gal and an inducer of ß-galactosidase (usually IPTG) is contained within an agar medium on a culture plate, colonies which have a functional lacZ gene can easily be distinguished by their blue colour.

Opis: Concanavalin A (Con A) agarose consists of Con A coupled to 6% agarose by the cyanogen bromide method. Con A is a tetrameric metalloprotein lectin isolated from <i>Canavalia ensiformis</i> (jack bean). It is used for the purification of glycoproteins, polysaccharides and glycolipids as it binds molecules containing α-D-mannopyranosyl, α-D-glucopyranosyl and sterically related residues. It has also be used in other application areas including purification of enzyme-antibody conjugates, purification of IgM and separation of membrane vesicles. As stated above, it is a metalloprotein and to maintain its binding characteristics the presence of both Mn²⁺ and Ca²⁺ is essential. Each subunit of Con A utilises one calcium and one manganese ion and these cations can be removed under acidic conditions abolishing the carbohydrate-binding activity.
